Mental Health Matters
October is a time to raise awareness of mental health and remind ourselves that looking after our wellbeing is just as important as caring for those around us.
Between work, family and everyday responsibilities, it can be easy to put ourselves last. As an optometrist, I spend my days helping people care for their vision, but I'm also reminded that health goes far beyond what we can see. Everyone has their own experiences, worries and challenges, many of which may not be visible.
Looking after your mental health doesn't have to involve big changes. Sometimes, it's the little things that make the biggest difference:
Give yourself permission to rest.
Make time for things that bring you happiness.
Stay connected with friends and loved ones.
Be kind to yourself and remember it's okay not to be okay.

Mental health isn't always visible, and you never know what someone may be going through. Don't be afraid to reach out, talk to someone you trust or seek professional support when you need it.
This World Mental Health Month, take a moment to pause, check in with yourself and those around you. Remember, caring for your emotional wellbeing is just as important as looking after your physical health, and you never have to face difficult moments alone.
