Over the Easter break, I saw lots of kids coming in for eye tests—proof of just how much of their schoolwork now happens on screens, from tablets and computers to phones. With all that screen time, digital eye strain is becoming a real thing. Tired eyes, headaches, or blurry vision? These are usually the first clues.

A simple trick to help: the 20-20-20 rule. Every 20 minutes, have your child look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. It’s quick, easy, and surprisingly effective!
Keep an eye on myopia (short-sightedness). Squinting, sitting too close to the TV, or struggling to see the board at school can be signs. The good news? Early detection makes it easier to manage. Regular eye exams let us talk about options like special lenses or contact lenses to slow progression.
Get outside! Sunshine and outdoor play aren’t just fun—they’re great for eye health. Natural light helps reduce myopia risk, gives eyes a break from screens, and improves focus. Whether it’s sports, park trips, or just a walk, outdoor time is essential. And don’t forget UV sunglasses to keep those eyes safe!
With simple habits, regular check-ups, and plenty of outdoor fun, keeping kids’ eyes healthy doesn’t have to be complicated.
Simple steps, happy eyes. Book a child’s eye exam and start today!
